PUNXSUTAWNEY - Rep. Cris Dush (R-Jefferson/Indiana) announced today that the Pennsylvania Department of Education has awarded Punxsutawney Area School District a targeted Safe Schools Equipment Grant totaling $19,838.

“This funding is a continuation of our ongoing commitment to ensuring that our local school districts have the resources they need to provide safe learning environments that students, parents and teachers expect and deserve,” said Dush. “This targeted funding can be used to purchase security technology, hire security personnel, develop emergency response plans or institute specialized staff training programs. Again, we’re not going to mandate how schools use this targeted school safety equipment funding because what works for one district may not work for another.”

Safe School Grants totaling $116,270 were previously awarded to four other school districts serving the 66th Legislative District.

The 66th Legislative District includes all of Jefferson County and the Indiana County communities of Banks, Canoe, East Mahoning, Grant, Green, Montgomery, North Mahoning, Rayne, South Mahoning and West Mahoning townships and Cherry Tree, Ernest, Glen Campbell, Marion Center, Plumville and Smicksburg boroughs.
